“As advocates for more sustainable boating, we believe that a shift to electric propulsion will be important to tackle climate change,” says Danny Tao, CEO of ePropulsion. “That’s why we are throwing our support behind clean energy contests such as the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. It’s a fantastic initiative which is not only helping to raise awareness of the environmental challenges we face but is also providing a practical forum for engineers of the future to design and develop new solutions that will be vital if we are to revolutionize the industry. We want to demonstrate the power of electric propulsion to deliver a cleaner, more sustainable marine industry, without compromising on performance.”

ePropulsion has once again provided sponsorship for Rochester Technology Institute’s (RIT) Dubai ‘Sailing Tiger’s team, which is competing in the Energy Class. And this year, the company is also supporting the ‘HAINAN’ team from the Marine Intelligent Equipment Laboratory of Hainan University in China, providing both teams with Navy 6.0 electric outboard motors and additional services and accessories.

Reem Muflehi, Team Lead of the RIT Dubai Sailing Tigers, said: “We really enjoyed taking part in the challenge again this year. Our team was even bigger than last year and with bolder ambitions to disrupt the status quo and build the fastest eco-friendly boat. Our design this year was smaller but still used the same Navy 6.0 electric propulsion model we used last year, and which served us so well. The motor is quiet, reliable and yet still provides great performance. We are really grateful to ePropulsion for their continued support.”

Baodan Chen, Chairman of Hainan Institute of Electronics and organizer of the virtual competition, added: “We’re very excited to be taking part in this competition virtually with the support of ePropulsion which provides us the convenience of clean energy and efficient propulsion. We’ve designed a catamaran with solar power generation as the main source of electricity, complemented by hydroelectric power generation and posture shaking power generation. We’re excited to share our results!”

Later in the year, ePropulsion will be extending its support of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, helping to organize a China stage of this inspiring and exciting event.

Hosted by the Yacht Club de Monaco, in collaboration with the International Powerboating Federation (UIM) and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge was established nine years ago to foster the development of alternative propulsion systems, using only clean energy sources to power the future of yachting.

The event is an international challenge, open to the public and which attracted 38 teams from 21 countries around the world, competing across three different classes: Energy, Solar and Open Sea. The event was a week-long program of racing, innovation, and networking, providing a bridge between the engineers of tomorrow and the industry leaders of today.
